About : Wayne Rothe

I’m a former Parkland school trustee serving in my seventh term as an Alderman in Spruce Grove. In that time I’ve served on most of the boards and committees to which Spruce Grove city council appoints. I currently serve on the Spruce Grove library board, the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre board and Spruce Grove’s economic development committee.

My overriding philosophies are fiscal restraint, open communication with citizens and well-planned growth. I believe that our primary role is to provide excellent core services. Everything else is not essential and must be assessed based on affordability.

I first ran for office for two reasons: to have a meaningful impact in my community and to ensure that the city’s finances are well managed. At that time we had one of the higher tax rates of cities in Alberta, but we’re now one of the lower taxed. Credit should be given to the councils I’ve served with and our excellent staff. My favourite time of year is November when we deal with the city budget. Yeah, I’m a nerd.

I operate a business in Spruce Grove as an independent Certified Financial Planner. Karen and I have lived in Spruce Grove for 40 years and have two adult children, Jordan and Chelsea, and an active toddler grandson.

With my council responsibilities, family responsibilities and running a successful financial-services practice, I keep very busy as I’m happiest when I’m active. Karen and I love to travel and we do so as often as possible.
