About : Wayne Rothe
I’m a former Parkland school trustee serving in my eighth term as a city councillor Spruce Grove. In that time I’ve served on most of the boards and committees to which Spruce Grove city council appoints. I currently serve on the Spruce Grove library board, the Yellowhead Regional Library board and executive committee, the Sturgeon River Watershed Alliance steering committee, and subdivision development appeal board.
My philosophies are fiscal restraint, open communication with citizens, and well-planned growth. I believe that our primary role is to provide excellent core services. Everything else is not essential and must be assessed based on affordability.
I first ran for office for two reasons: to have a meaningful impact in my community and to ensure good fiscal management. At that time we had one of the higher tax rates of cities in Alberta, but we’re now middle of the pack. Credit goes to the councils I’ve served with and our excellent staff. My favourite time of year is November when we deal with the city budget. Yeah, I’m a nerd.
I’m a retired independent financial planner. Karen and I have lived in Spruce Grove for 40 years and have two adult children, Jordan and Chelsea, and an active five-year-old grandson.
With my council and family responsibilities and starting an education consulting practice, I keep busy as I’m happiest when I’m active. Karen and I love to travel and we do so as often as possible.
